Catalog description

Students examine the impact of managed care, the dynamics of competition in the healthcare industry, and the role of government in medical care. Students investigate forces pressuring for change in healthcare, and the reasons why the health system has evolved to its current state. Emphasis is placed on the role of the Affordable Care Act (2010) and how healthcare reform and related legislation and regulation influences the manner in which the public pays for and receives its medical services. Prerequisite: Admission to the Master of Public Health Program, or permission of instructor.
