Students examine the social, cultural, and political effects of warfare and social violence on East Asian societies during the twentieth century. Topics may include the rise of warlordism, secret societies in East Asia, the Sino-Japanese War, and violence in the Cultural Revolution. Prerequisite: Graduate Standing.
