Catalog description

Students engage with the engineering, physical, and computational foundations that covers modern biomedical imaging systems. Course content is delivered through both didactic instruction and laboratory activities. Topics may include radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and positron emission tomography (PET). Students will implement and simulate basic imaging workflows using engineering tools (e.g., MATLAB, 3D Slicer) to model data acquisition, reconstruction, and visualization, and will apply image processing and signal analysis techniques for diagnostic and research purposes. The course also emphasizes practical considerations such as data quality, patient safety, and modality-specific operational constraints. Prerequisite: ETEC 4374 .
