Students study linguistic changes in the development of the English language from its Indo-European origins through Old English, Middle English, and Early Modern English to its present form. The areas of change studied include phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and lexicon. Course Equivalents: ENGL 5389 .
