Catalog description

Students train with surgeons who care for patients with the most serious surgical disease processes in the intensive care setting. The experience may include hospital and emergency department consultations and operative cases. Students engage with patients in the collection of data, attend operative interventions, perform a physical examination, and work with their Attending(s) to reason through differential diagnoses and generate a plan for management of patients requiring intensive care due to need for oxygenation, ventilation, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, arterial monitoring, multiple intravenous infusions, intravascular infusions requiring titration, continuous renal replacement therapy, multiple surgeries, and other highly-skilled interventions. Credit: Variable, maximum 4 hours. Prerequisite: CLIN 7802 .
