Catalog description

Students train with internal medicine hospitalists and/or critical care physicians who care for medical patients with the most serious disease processes in the intensive care setting. The experience may include hospital and emergency department consultations. Students engage with patients in the collection of data, to perform a physical examination, to work with their Attending physician to reason through differential diagnoses and generate a plan for management of patients requiring intensive care due to need for oxygenation, ventilation, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), arterial monitoring, multiple intravenous infusions, intravascular infusions requiring titration, continuous renal replacement therapy, and other highly-skilled interventions. Credit: 1-4 hours. Prerequisite: CLIN 7801 .
