Catalog description

Students engage in a survey of Mexican and Mesoamerican art. Students study images of prehistoric artifacts and the art and architecture of pre-Hispanic cultures, including the Olmec, Mixtec, Maya, and Aztec. The impact of the Spanish conquest, the role of art in the Mexican Revolution and the Socialist movement, Arte Popular, the Muralists, the late twentieth century, and contemporary Mexican art are also explored. Prerequisite: ARTS 1303 and (ARTS 2386 or ARTS 3385 ) with a grade of C or better.
