Catalog description
This course focuses on literacy methods and applications in K-2 classrooms. Candidates use research-based literacy strategies for teaching phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Candidates use a variety of texts that support students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The Common Core Standards for English Language Arts are explored. An emphasis will be placed on holistic learning, the inter-relatedness of curricular areas, educational technologies, and the developmental appropriateness of integrating teaching and learning in grades kindergarten through second. Offered fall.
