Gender, Sexuality, and the Criminal Justice System

Catalog description

This course explores the important intersectional relationship between gender/sexuality and the criminal justice system. This course also examines the ciscender women’s place in the criminal justice system and that of the LGBTQIA+ community. This course incorporates feminist approaches to criminology and approaches from Queer Criminology, a theoretical and practical approach that looks to highlight and draw attention to the stigmatization, the criminalization, and in many ways the rejection of the Queer community, which is to say the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) population, as both victims and offenders, by the academe and the criminal legal system.
