Catalog description

Religion has become a pressing question of our time. Surveys consistently demonstrate that the percentage of Americans who describe themselves as Christians is rapidly shrinking. Moreover, the religiously unaffiliated – those who identify as atheist, agnostic, or “nothing in particular” – is rapidly growing. Scholars from various academic fields, as well as journalists, cultural commentators, and religious leaders, are grappling with religion today: how is it changing, why, and what are the consequences of these changes for our lives? We will enter this lively conversation with the following question: how can we reimagine religion today? The key stance that informs our approach is that religious traditions are not static, but rather dynamic and capable of innovation. This course, then, will serve as your design space. Your main project is to create an innovative solution to a specific religious challenge today.
