THEO 3700
Reimagining Religion: Self, Society, and Workplace
Saint Louis University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
The multidimensional question at the center of this seminar is: “how can we promote a religiously inclusive workplace?” Your team project will propose an answer to this question. This is a difficult question because religion remains one of the most powerful yet confusing forces in our society. If, then, we want to create space for religion in the workplace, we will need to have a better sense for what we are (and are not) creating space for. To prepare you for your team project, we will wrestle (also in groups) with different definitions of religion, metrics for measuring it, stereotypes that hinder insight into religion, and various ways that religion gets deformed. These issues will be explored against the backdrop of the rapidly changing state of religion in America today, including conflicting claims about advancing secularism.
