Mexico: From Makings to Modernity

In this course we will explore the development of Mexico as a culture and a country, from its rich pre-Hispanic roots, to its Conquest and subsequent fight for Independence from Spain, to its emergence in the late 20th century as a socio-cultural and economic powerhouse within the Americas. We will have a look at key cultural productions from important moments in its trajectory --from Liberation to Revolution to Globalization-- that reveal how Mexicans conceived themselves as a people through their most popular and beloved national stories. Taught in Spanish.
