Catalog description

This course is recommended for future practitioners in speech-language pathology/audiology/deaf education who will be serving individuals (across the lifespan) with disorders of the auditory system. This course will allow the student to develop the educational, treatment, and counseling skills necessary to work with the client &/or family more effectively. This course builds upon the student’s knowledge of hearing science and audiometric assessment and interpretation. (Pre-Reqs are SLHS 3200 and SLHS 4200 ) The course will cover the assessment process for assistive listening devices or other rehabilitative options; hearing aids and assistive devices; cochlear implants; auditory training; speech reading; language and communication factors for the deaf and hard of hearing; the psychoacoustic impact of hearing loss, psychosocial aspects of hearing loss; and additional factors specific to pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
