Catalog description

The purpose of this longitudinal surgical elective is to allow 4th year medical students who are interested in a career in general surgery to demonstrate their leadership ability by being a mentor and teacher to 3rd year students while also developing the skills necessary to be successful during their surgical intern year. They will guide 3rd year medical students at the start of the clerkship by outlining the responsibilities of each surgery service to allow for a smooth transition onto the wards. The 4th year students will assist the clerkship directors with teaching 3rd year students on the surgery clerkship sterile technique, knot tying, and assist with suture lab and cadaver lab.
