This graduate seminar examines the development, theory, research, and practice of organizational learning. The course focuses on how organizations can learn to change and achieve sustainable advantages by creating, acquiring, storing, disseminating and using knowledge to adapt, renew, innovate, and transform. Types and processes of organizational learning, facilitating and inhibiting factors, and impacts on organizational performance are considered. The course begins by reviewing Senge’s disciplines and explores the acquisition of associated skills. Additional perspectives are provided by a variety of theoretical papers, research reports, and case studies from various academic disciplines and practicing professionals. Applications of principles to diverse organizational settings are examined and students are encouraged to develop projects relevant to their specialized interests that have practical value.
