Catalog description

Students will spend five days a week working with Dr. Pawar on the inpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit at SSM Health St. Joseph's Hospital. They will evaluate patients and complete documentation appropriate to their level of training. Common reasons for admission include suicidal ideation or concerns that a patient may pose a danger to others. Frequently encountered diagnoses include mood disorders, substance use disorders, and impulse control disorders. Conduct disorder, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, and ADHD are also prevalent. In addition, students will gain exposure to the unique psychosocial factors that significantly influence psychiatric presentation in children and adolescents.
