Community Psychiatry for Veterans

Catalog description

Students will spend five days a week working with Dr. Sagarwala at the Veterans Affairs outpatient psychiatry clinic. Patients will be a mixture of new intake evaluations and follow-ups for established patients. Students will interview patients, participate in the development of an appropriate treatment plan, and practice clinical documentation skills. This is a general psychiatry clinic for veterans - the problems for which patients are seen will vary widely. Students will gain experience in evaluation and management of post-traumatic stress disorder, substance use disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, and others.
