Catalog description

Students will spend five days a week on the emergency psychiatry service at SSM Health - Saint Louis University Hospital. The student will work directly with the academic team, including residents and academic psychiatrists. Students will evaluate patients with psychiatric problems in the emergency department and participate in treatment planning. Patients will be largely undifferentiated with acute problems including but not limited to active suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, intoxication, agitation, and psychosis. This course will be particularly helpful for Phase 3 students interested in psychiatry or emergency medicine, but would be a beneficial learning experience for students of all specialties.
