Saint Louis University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This second half of the methods course introduces students to quantitative research and statistics in political science through a combination of theoretical classes and practical sessions with R. The theoretical part reviews the main methodologies in quantitative research: survey, content analysis, and experiment. It also covers relevant aspects of these techniques: the positivist paradigm, variables, sampling procedures, reliability and validity, and statistics. The practical part focuses on learning to use R and R studio, an open-source and widely used program for statistical analysis, and on putting the learned material into practice with this program.
