Catalog description
This doctoral-level course will provide hands-on experience with developing and implementing a course for undergraduates and master’s level students. This will include discussion of course planning, syllabi development, and the practice of instruction as well as challenging student-facing aspects including addressing equity in the classroom, assessment development and grading approaches, and student concerns. Students will read, summarize, and discuss relevant articles, reflect on key points in readings and class presentations, use on-line resources, review example successful educators, and develop a course, from inception through to material selection. Evaluation is based on written assignments. Students are to engage with all posted materials and complete all assignments. This course involves significant self-guided work to be completed outside of class; students are expected to read, watch, and interact with all assigned materials.
