Pediatric Gastroenterology

Catalog description

This elective emphasizes the evaluation and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver diseases in children and adolescents. We focus on helping students to make the transition from student to physician. Students sometimes attend inpatient rounds daily, perform initial inpatient consults, but usually see outpatients in our clinic as the primary experience. Students will be exposed to aspects of nutrition including our Weekly Nutrition Support Rounds for all patients in parenteral nutrition. Students will be exposed to our Liver Transplant Program and multiple GI procedures including endoscopies, colonoscopies, and liver biopsies. The emphasis will be "hands-on" patient care and didactic teaching oriented towards patient care.
