Catalog description
The course consists of 6 discussion-based meetings. The purpose of the course is to explore and engage in-depth varying topics in health care ethics not covered in the standard ethics curriculum. Students will read and prepare to discuss the assigned readings on the given topic. Questions that could be discussed include: What is the relationship between religion and medicine? How should we balance autonomy and beneficence in ethical dilemmas? How do we approach the issue of physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia? How do we approach the controversies over brain death? How should we frame the controversies around gene editing?.
