Antitrust Law

Catalog description

This course covers the fundamentals of antitrust law as well as the underlying legal and economic theory. Topics include (i) The historic origins of U.S. antitrust law (ii) horizontal restraints of trade among competitors (iii) monopoly and dominant firm conduct (iv) vertical restraints of trade between suppliers and customers such as resale price maintenance, territorial and customer restrictions, tying, exclusive dealing contracts, and franchising (v) horizontal mergers (vi) antitrust & digital platforms (vii) The relationship between antitrust law & inequality. The course attempts to introduce students to the basic concepts (and limitations) of employing economic analysis in the law; however, no previous study of economics is required.
