Catalog description

This course is designed to equip future physicians with the foundational knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide safe and high-quality patient care in today's complex healthcare environment. The course will explore the essential principles of patient safety, emphasizing a systems-based approach to understanding medical errors and preventing patient harm. It will move beyond individual mistakes to delve into systemic factors like communication breakdowns, teamwork challenges, and flawed care processes that often contribute to adverse events. Through a combination of didactic sessions, interactive case studies/journal clubs, and practical exercises, students will develop a deep understanding of patient safety concepts and gain proficiency in applying patient safety tools and strategies.
