To an extent far greater than people appreciate, the societies in which we live today have been shaped by the thoughts and actions of our more remote ancestors. In this course, we look at the earliest history of humankind and the ideas and institutions which we have inherited from the Prehistorical, Classical and Medieval past. We will ask what we hold in common with all peoples of the earth across space and time through our shared experiences and how we are different.
