Catalog description

This class examines how works of literature respond to political circumstances, represent existing political realities, imagine political futures, and even intervene in the political sphere. Students read works of literature with a focus on how they engage questions of justice, envision just societies, and depict struggles for social change. In class discussions and in individual written work, students reflect on how the literature they read expands or challenges their existing political, social, and ethical beliefs about how a society should be structured.
