Catalog description

This 2-week elective is intended for 4th year medical students pursuing a career in emergency medicine (EM), who have completed EM-410 but are unable to pursue away electives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students will be provided with opportunities for a letter of recommendation primarily written by the course director, Tina Chen. Students will participate in simulated patient encounters intended to reinforce knowledge of commonly encountered clinical pathologies in the emergency department (ED). Students will also be introduced to select advanced, high-acuity clinical topics and invasive procedures in preparation for intern year. The course will emphasize interpersonal and communication skills needed for effective patient advocacy and healthy working relationships.
