This course is an introduction to soil formation and the fundamental properties of soils. The class examines the basic chemical, physical, and biological properties of soils and how they interact to affect important processes such as soil-water-plant relations, nutrient cycling, and erosion. The class explores how soil management affects important environmental concerns including water quality, global greenhouse gasses, and ecosystem services.
