Self in the World for Intercultural Instructors

Catalog description

This course will prepare students to enter the world of ESL and to help them develop a basic understanding of education in the modern world. Students will reflect on how they were taught and the perception of good and bad teachers. Although the focus of the course is on teaching and/ or instructing in an international context, the course itself is relevant to all those who will need intercultural communication skills for their future. Students will be encouraged to reflect on and apply the communicative skills they learned in the Eloquentia Perfecta classes, look back on the reflections on identity they did in Cura Personalis 1, and combine what they have learned in the other Core and their major classes. Students will also revisit the identity gears activity from Cura Personalis I to help them understand how one’s identity plays a major role in their personality as a teacher.
