Rhetorical Inquiry: Human Rights

This course explores the multifaceted ways in which human rights issues are articulated, debated, and contested. We will examine the rhetorical strategies employed by activists, policymakers, and scholars to advocate for, challenge, and defend human rights. Through a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach, students will develop a critical understanding of the building blocks of human rights arguments, including common rhetorical tools and commonplaces, how human rights issues are framed for consumption, and how evidence and expertise are (un)authorized by publics.
