Advanced Reporting for Social Justice

Catalog description

In this course, students will leverage a solutions journalism lens to produce journalism that advances social justice. Students will explore one serious, societal (and local) problem throughout the semester, reporting on the people and initiatives focused on responding to that problem. In doing so, students will learn rigorous investigative reporting techniques. The course will also introduce students to trauma-based interviewing and solidarity reporting. Ultimately, students will leave the course equipped to create more equitable news media.
