Catalog description
The majority of people now reside within cities rather than outside of them, marking the urban as the dominant form of living in the twenty-first century. This course introduces students to ethnographic methodologies for research and writing in order to analyze the city’s complexity, cultural politics, and power dynamics. Classroom discussions will consider topics such as crime, poverty, inequality, and segregation while course assignments will take students beyond the classroom and into St. Louis City to pursue collaborative and individual field projects of their choosing.
