Catalog description

This course is an introduction to past and present indigenous cultures of North America, the impact of ethnic cleansing on their cultures, and the struggle for social justice and the right of human dignity that continues to persist. Throughout the semester we explore the rich beliefs, norms, values, symbolism, realities of existence, and worldview of American Indian cultures. Students are guided from the norms of their own cultural existence and come to appreciate, understand, and value the diversity inherent in the worldview of America’s indigenous peoples. This understanding results in the recognition of a shared humanity.
