Catalog description

This course is designed to provide a framework of knowledge, values, and skills necessary to work with maltreated children and their families. It also serves to introduce students to the field of Child Welfare (CW). The course includes the Federal and State mandates, relevant ethical concerns and values, and an overview of Child Protective Services including adoption, foster care, permanency planning, and family preservation services. Students will learn skills in engagement, assessment, and intervention with children and families. Emphasis will be placed on the knowledge and use of evidence to inform practice and the creation of Child Safety Plans based on the Safety Decision Making method.
