Trauma in Children & Adolescents is the foundation course to introduce students to a comprehensive overview of core concepts related to understanding and addressing trauma, specifically with children and adolescents. The first half of the course will provide a general overview to include a basic understanding of trauma and trauma-related theoretical perspectives used to inform evidence-based assessment and interventions. The second half of the course will include special considerations for children and adolescents with topics related to the impact of trauma on childhood development and surrounding systems, evidence-based tools for screening, assessment, and intervention, resilience, and the impact on the professional's response to trauma. Several theoretical frameworks will be presented to include cognitive, neurobiological, clinical, and socio-cultural perspectives in the treatment of trauma in children and adolescents.
