AI, Ethics, and Society

Catalog description

This course will introduce students to central issues in the ethics of emerging technologies related to artificial intelligence. These technologies include large language models (LLMS) as well as their associated technologies. Students will also become familiar with the central tenets of normative ethical theory. Students will first learn to engage with these ethical theories and subsequently will apply these frameworks to real world scenarios involving AI or big data. This will take place via multiple case studies throughout the term wherein students will provide a grounded ethical assessment of a real-world issue.
