Catalog description

Elementary education majors enroll in EDU 462 as part of their third block of study. This course integrates best practices related to creating welcoming classroom environments to optimize learning. Students will explore effective teaching aspects to meet the needs of all learners. Students will deepen their knowledge of the various learners in classroom settings while developing dispositions that embrace strategies to differentiate to meet the needs of all students. Emphasis will be on cooperative learning, differentiation, lesson planning, reflective practice, and identifying school and community needs. Additionally, the course assesses ESOL standard CM.2 as teachers learn how to use technological tools and benchmarks-aligned resources to effectively meet the needs of ELLs at varying English proficiency levels. Extensive professor feedback characterizes this course as students prepare for their final internship in the next block of courses.
