Critical Information Literacy

Catalog description

This course provides social workers with basic information about research methods. It critiques how systems of power shape scientific literature as well as reviews culturally responsive, community-based, and participatory approaches to evidence-based practice. Using a multiparadigmatic perspective, social workers will learn how to read and interpret the results of quantitative and qualitative empirical studies. Students will explore social work practice roles of research consumer and communicator, creating a literature review synthesizing statistical data, qualitative themes, and conceptual or theoretical models to resolve an evidence-based practice question.
