This graduate capstone-style course centers on an independent research project in drug development and industrial pharmacy. Students integrate concepts from pharmaceutics, biopharmaceutics, pre-formulation, and regulatory sciences to design, execute, and analyze a focused research or development project that addresses a practical problem in modern dosage form or drug product development. Working under faculty supervision, students may undertake projects involving formulation and process optimization, characterization of critical quality attributes, evaluation of manufacturing and scale‑up considerations, or application of quality‑by‑design and risk‑assessment principles to industrially relevant products. Emphasis is placed on experimental design, data interpretation, and translation of findings into development strategies that align with current regulatory and industrial expectations. The course culminates in a written report and oral presentation in which students communicate their methodology, results, and conclusions in a professional format appropriate for industry or graduate‑level scientific audiences. By completing this research project, students strengthen their technical, project management, and scientific communication skills, preparing them for careers in pharmaceutical R&D, product development, and related industrial pharmacy roles. This course can be taken multiple times.
