Cosmetic Science

Catalog description

This undergraduate level course introduces students to the science of cosmetics. To achieve this, we will discuss the biology and chemistry of the two organs of application of cosmetics, the skin and the hair. In addition, discussion will also include the chemistry of the ingredients of cosmetics, and formulation strategies for cosmetics and trends in market. Formulation topics include moisturizing products (creams, lotions, anti-aging products), hair care products (shampoos, conditioners, etc.), and sunscreen products. This course is a co-requisite with PHS 400L
