Gender in Organizations

Catalog description

This course examines how gender shapes — and is shaped by — organizational structures, cultures, and practices. Moving beyond tokenism and representation, the course explores gender dynamics at both the individual level (e.g., hiring, leadership, pay equity, and career advancement) and the organizational level (e.g., workplace culture, policies, communication norms, and systems of support). Through an intersectional lens, students will analyze how gender intersects with race, class, and other social categories to influence experiences within workplaces — from boardrooms to low-wage sectors. This course encourages students to engage with both empirical research and lived experiences to develop a nuanced understanding of equity, inclusion, and power in contemporary organizations.
