Catalog description

Autism is common, occurring in 1 in 36 individuals (CDC, 2023), and affects social interaction, communication, and other behaviors, to varying degrees. This course introduces students to the characteristics and symptoms of autistic people, and then addresses experiences and barriers autistic people face during the adolescent to adult transition and beyond. Topics covered may include independent living skills, interpersonal relationships, community resources and employment, higher education, psychiatric difficulties, and pathways to independence.
