Art into Fashion: Italian Style explores clothing as a symbolic language that reflects and shapes Italy’s cultural identities across historical periods. Students will examine the interplay of art, literature, film, and fashion, from Renaissance mercantile culture to the global allure of Made in Italy. Topics include sprezzatura, bella figura, iconic designers, and the industry’s ties with France, the U.S., and sustainability movements. Museum visits and experiential learning opportunities will offer hands-on engagement with fashion artifacts, grounding course concepts in real-world applications. Through critical analysis and discussion, students will develop cultural proficiency, enabling them to engage with diverse traditions with greater depth and insight.
