Catalog description

In this course, we study Italian culture and civilization through contemporary Italian society and the millennial history of the Bel Paese, with an emphasis on literature as a lens to understand culture, history, and social change. Students examine Italian literature alongside art, science, food, sports, European identity, emigration and immigration, politics, gender roles, and religion, using a historical, interdisciplinary, and comparative approach to develop a nuanced understanding of Italy’s language, culture, and society.
