Catalog description

This course will introduce students to the inner workings of the global food industry at all levels and in all segments. Our food systems reflect profound cultural values while facing critical sustainability challenges. Basics of agricultural production, food processing, distribution, and retailing will be examined, including the impact of each beyond the food system. Students will reflect on the cultural, political, and economic considerations which impact the global food system. The course will also cover current issues impacting the industry and their influence on marketing. These issues will be examined across the interaction and interdependence of global groups that compete, collaborate, and clash in shaping the global food system.
