Catalog description

This experience is designed as the capstone professional course for the Double Major (PK-4 / Special Education); it should be taken in conjunction with SPE 495 . It is to be the final course taken in the major sequence. The Student Teaching experience approximates a full-time working experience for the semester (fourteen weeks) and includes experiences in both regular and special education classrooms. It includes a seminar class each week in which issues related to student teaching are studied. At the conclusion of the Student Teaching experience, the student shall have demonstrated proficiencies in instructional management, student motivation, curriculum planning, learning theory, solving problems in the education setting, using reading, language and literacy skills in working with exceptional students, identifying instructional resources, using technology, and assessing student achievement. A maximum of one additional course may be taken during the student teaching semester. Students should apply to the Office of Student Teaching according to the application deadlines established by the Department.
