Catalog description

In this class bioart and bioethics are explored and discussed in the context of developing interdisciplinary connections between the fields of contemporary art and the biological sciences. Using kinesiology as a reference point for creative investigations, this studio art course provides an introduction into three-dimensional design principles and contemporary sculptural issues through 3D printing technologies, collage processes, and wood joinery techniques. Utilitarianism and deontology are discussed and applied to interpret and analyze the bioethical implications of contemporary artists working in the field of bioart. Image presentations, group discussions, and class critiques complement hands-on studio projects exploring systems, structures, and movement in the human body.
