Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to special education for general education preservice teachers, with a focus on inclusive practices and strategies for supporting diverse learners. Students will explore the legal and historical foundations of special education, understand various disability categories, and learn about the special education process, including the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The course covers essential frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and emphasizes the importance of collaboration, assistive technology, and culturally responsive teaching.
