Implementing Positive Behavior Supports

Catalog description

This course provides a comprehensive study of internalizing and externalizing behavior among children and youth with and without disability labels within the context of P-12 classrooms and other settings. Students will reflect on their own behavior-related beliefs and practices as well as explore the extent to which they embrace a multi-tiered Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) framework. Via an extensive field-based signature assignment, students will learn how to collect/analyze multi-source data to pinpoint the underlying function(s) of a focal child's prolonged maladaptive behavior and create/assess the effectiveness of a data-driven Behavior Intervention Plan that is tailored to this child's strengths, preferences, and needs.
