Catalog description

Teacher candidates read and apply theory and practice grounded in high-quality literacy research evidence including comprehension, vocabulary, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and writing studies. Using literacy assessments to diagnose reading and writing strengths and needs, teacher candidates then remediate or enrich P-12 learners’ literacy based on the analysis of each assessment. Finally, teacher candidates read and apply theory and practice in culturally responsive approaches to teaching literacy. This course prepares teacher candidates to tutor a P-12 learner in literacy for 20 supervised practicum hours.
